In November this year I am going to be travelling far and wide to work voluntarily in Galle, a town on the south west coast of Sri Lanka for 12 months, living and working amongst the local people and non-government development organisations there. I will be working with vulnerable, disabled and unwell people in community groups that have been devastated by the recent Tsunami and years of civil war, sharing knowledge and skills that i use as an Occupational Therapist here in England with health workers and support services in Sri Lanka. I hope to pass on and teach valuable information that can be built on in order to develop daily living conditions and a fundamental quality of life for many groups of people who have so few opportunities to grasp hold of their own lives. Before I head off Im going to be doing creative workshops with volunteers and children at my local youth group, university OT students and departments, and anyone else i know who'll listen, to learn about global / development issues in the world and particularly in Sri Lanka, and where we all fit in and can contribute. I will then also be sharing information, learning experiences and resources I gain from the project, on return to this country, through a variety of mixed media and interesting publications for others to gain from. So I hope you will enjoy travelling with me through my experiences and sharing in global education........
