BUPA Great North Run 2008 · 5 October 2008 ·

The North East Trust for Aphasia (NETA) supports people with aphasia and their carers. Aphasia means difficulties with communication, often following stroke. The person with aphasia can have problems speaking, understanding, reading and writing. This can have major effects for both the person and their family in terms of social life, work and relationships.

Story

Hi there

I'm running the Great North Run half marathon for a charity that really helped my dad after he suffered his strokes.  Without NETA he would never have made the great recovery that he has.

Here is an overview of what Aphasia is:

Aphasia is the term for communication difficulties following neurological problems, most often stroke. People with aphasia can have problems speaking, understanding, reading and writing, often affecting social life, work and relationships. NETA is a north-east based charity - it is run by people with aphasia and their carers - set up to provide support for people with aphasia. The funds raised last year contributed substantially to the running of the new Aphasia Support Centre, "Comm-Unity", opened in 2006 to provide a support network for people with aphasia and their carers. So, thank you for visiting our Great North Run fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: North East Trust for Aphasia gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So if you could manage to sponsor me, even if it's just a little bit, it would be grealy appreciated.

Thanks so much

Brownie
