You're Running How Far?

I know what you're thinking...Clearly only a nutter would run the Welwyn 5k Race for Life in a pretty poor time and then enter themselves into the London Marathon the very next day...

The Inspiration

So why a Marathon? Well, I was inspired, simple as that. In recent years my family has lost both my Nans and my Uncle to various forms of cancer and this summer we lost a very close family friend who had been battling with Breast Cancer for a number of years. She was in her 50s.

I did the 5k Race for Life with Dee's name pinned to my back and it all started from there.

Dee was an inspiration to me because she reminded me what life is all about and what really matters.

Ben and I were honoured that she was able to join us for our wedding in July. She danced with us pretty much until it was time to go home. She showed such bravery, because we know she must have been in pain. Sadly she was taken into hospital a few days later, while we were on honeymoon.

I knew her my whole life. Our families grew up together. She was larger than life, warm, kind and I can always hear her laughing. I still can't imagine a world without her in it.

A word about my relatives

My Nannie Seymour was one of a kind. She was a hilarious individual, in a world of her own most of the time, but incredibly switched on occasionally just to surprise us all. She was stubborn as an ox and a wicked gossip. And I adored her. She was taken into hospital after having a fit in the night and was dead from (they think Breast) Cancer in a week.

Nannie Binnie had lung cancer. I was the last person to see her alive.

My Uncle was 64 when he died. He had saved all of his life for his retirement and didn't even make it.

So. It's time to do something positive.

Donation Time

I'm asking for your time and/or money. If you are free on 25th April, I'd love to see you on the sidelines - you'd be suprised what a difference a cheer or friendly face can make. Adam - you're on photo duty, now there's a challenge for you!

But above all please give generously to ISABEL HOSPICE, for whom I am raising £2,500. I am honoured to be running for the charity in one of their Gold Bond places, of which they only have 5 a year, but with that comes a huge responsibility of raising this large sum of money. The hospice was set up in 1982 and is based in Welwyn Garden City. It provides care and support for families of the terminally ill and as you can imagine is an absolutely fantastic cause.

The hospice is fully self funding which means it cannot continue to provide such fantastic care for a huge number of families and their loved ones, without your money! Please give as much or as little as you're able through this page and remember Gift Aid!
