Flora London Marathon 2009 · 26 April 2009 ·

Every two hours, someone in the UK will become paralysed. Globally, it is estimated that 15.4 million people are living with paralysis. At Spinal Research our vision is to create a world where paralysis can be cured, no matter when the injury occurred or where in the world.

Story

As most of you know, I was all set to run in last years London Marathon but due to an injury I had to defer until this year, so I've been training and ready to go. I'm running for a charity very close to my heart – Spinal Research.

In June 2002 my friend Tom Harper broke his neck in a swimming pool accident and is now paralysed from the neck down. Despite this (and a year in hospital) Tom has remained positive, rebuilt his life and set up his own technical design company. He’s also recently redesigned and overseen the rebuild of his and his girlfriend’s house in Bournemouth. Since Tom’s accident I’ve met others who have suffered from spinal injury, one being my boyfriend's Nan(Margaret) who sadly died in April 2008.

This will be the second time I have raised money for Spinal Research, it’s a great charity and gives hope to everyone who has been touched by spinal damage.

A bit about Spinal Research - More than 40,000 people in the UKare paralysed as the result of damage to the spinal cord.  The spinal cord cannot repair itself unaided, but research has already shown that there are ways to generate some re-growth in the spinal column. Spinal Research has no direct government funding so replies totally on donations.

Please help us raise money to help people like Tom and Margaret.

Thanks for your support,
