Story

Hello Everyone!

Firstly, thank you for visiting my page!

After a rather difficult period in my life, the trek is back on track!

I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in 2011 for the Institute of Cancer Research! I figured a marathon would clearly be just that little bit too hard, so a 19,340ft mountain climb might be an easier challenge! I have 16 weeks of gruelling training (and yes, that will mean cutting back on the lollies and wine gums!) before the big event, so please donate generously!

To secure my place on the trek I need to raise £3250 in total, but the more the better - I won't turn away anyones money ;) !

A few things you might not know about Kilimanjaro:

The structure is composed of 3 volcanoes: Kibo (19,340 feet), Mawenzi (16,896 feet), and Shira (13,000 feet).

Kilimanjaro lies 205 miles South of the equator and stands on Tanzania’s northern border with Kenya.

Today, about 15,000 people attempt to climb Kilimanjaro each year, as a spiritual journey or as a personal challenge! (There were no facts to say how many actually make it back down again though…)

Kilimanjaro - the 'Roof of Africa', the highest freestanding mountain in the world, rising 19340ft above sea level!

A few things to know about me & my trip:

I will not be driving there

I have scrubbed up on my geography so the likelihood of me getting lost is slim (er)

I am already aware that there are no River Islands/Costa Coffees/Wine Bars within a million miles of the summit.

The only other 'mountains' I've climbed are Snowdonia when I was 12 at school, and some random mountain in Spain, which takes an hour (2 if you're my mum and I who wear sandals with kitten heels!lol) to climb to the top and get back down again….

I am ridiculously stubborn…so I will make it up that mountain if it kills me :o)

Thanks to you all in advance!

Sarah xx

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Institute of Cancer Research & Everyman gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
