Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for taking the time to open this page!
So what's this all about then? Well, I will be leaving the UK in October to embark on a 12 month volunteer professional placement in Uganda with the charity Oasis.
I will be heading out to a town called Mbale, taking up the role of HIV/AIDS Educational Trainer and Consultant……
I will be part of Oasis' Beersheba Project which works in the slum community of Musoto, caring for destitute girls giving them a springboard to a better life and hope for the future.
The project provides a comprehensive programme of education, training and support for the girls who are aged ten to fourteen.
Beersheba is a place where the girls can not only receive shelter and food but also learn vital life skills to empower them to make decisions to lead a positive and healthy life.
My job will be to develop and professionalize the HIV/AIDS awareness and educational aspect of Beersheba and also other Oasis Uganda projects in different parts of Uganda
. I will also be training staff and volunteers involved in other similar projects (such as Bambejja, Net2Work and GAT placements) making sure that the education is delivered in the most relevant, efficient and impacting way.
It’s a huge challenge and a bit scary, but I’m going to work really hard to do my best to develop the HIV/AIDS and sexual health education in the projects I am involved with and I hope to make a lasting difference.
In order to do all this I need to raise a whole heap of dosh - £7,000 to be precise. This will cover all my costs such as flights, accommodation, food, transport, insurance etc. I really need your help and support in this!!
In order to raise money I will be doing a sponsored danceathon on Saturday 28th July. I will be at a dance festival called Global Gathering so it is an ideal place to dance all night! The plan is to dance a day at work on the dancefloor. What I mean by that is that I plan to be dancing for 7 hours and 15 mins (my normal office hours). Even for a professional clubber like me this will be a challenge (I can usually do 5 hours at a time) so I hope you will jump onboard and sponsor me!!
Thank you for getting involved in this adventure with me.
Lots of love Sas x
PS you can still sponsor me after the event - the page will be open for a year!
