In April 2009 I took part in a sponsored fire walk for Little Heroes Cancer Trust, walking over wooden embers, burning at 1,236 degrees Fahrenheit, in my bare feet. I then embarked on my first races including the Edinburgh 10K in May 2009 and the Leeds 10K in June 2009, and with the help of my family and friends, raised a total of £460 to support these children and their families.
My next challenge was to complete my first half marathon, which I did on 20th September 2009 on behalf of Maggie's Centres, who were looking for a team to support them. Joining them seemed like the next logical step in not only my "running career" (ahem!), but in supporting cancer charities that truly go the extra mile. Maggie's in particular is a charity that continues to help people I care about and supporting them in some small way makes this challenge worthwhile.
I am now (for my sins) looking forward to the Bupa Great Winter Run on 9th January 2010!
