Friends and Family,

I appreciate you taking some time to learn more about my upcoming trip to Nepal! I was beyond excited to learn that I was accepted as a volunteer with "Restless Development." They have asked that in exchange for them paying for many of my travel costs, that I raise around $7000.00 CAN to go towards the program itself. Over %80 of all donations goes directly towards developing and running outreach and educational programs in rural communities.  This is when YOU come in! I'm currently working two jobs and spending nil so I can meet the very close deadline, but I need help raising the last portion of the donation. I'll be in need of approximately $2000.00 CAN by September, at which time I'll be departing Canada for this great adventure. Note: Donations made on this page are in British Pounds!

Many of you already know that I hope to work abroad after graduation. I have been drawn to development work because of the many possibilities and the vast potential found within developing communities. Unfortunately, funding is often required on our part (the Global North) to stimulate social and political change in such communities. Development work is not about "helping the needy," it is about realizing we're all human. I believe in fighting to reduce disparity and replacing it with a global understanding of the human struggle.

Working with Restless Development in Nepal, I will be:

                     - Working in partnership with two other volunteers from Nepal, living in a rural village;

                      - Teaching sexual education to youth and adults, thereby reducing spread of HIV/AIDS.

                      - Engaging in- and out-of-school youth through outreach programs and activities such as sports, drama/ music productions, various clubs and community-wide events;

                       - Empowering women and girls economically and socially by establishing support groups and encouraging their equal treatment and participation in the community and school system;

                        - Teaching sustainable farming practices to members of the community;

                         - Teaching English to the community.

Restless Development addresses a huge range of issues that exist in the developing world! While still in university, I am so gifted to be able to experience what I hope to do with the rest of my life. Please help me make this big step!
