My story

On the 26th April I will be running my first marathon. I am training really hard and whilst I am enjoying my training, the idea of running 26 miles is very scary!

I  am running to raise money for the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre, which is dedicated to helping thousands of people who suffer from dyslexia.
Dyslexia is an inherited neurological condition.  Whilst many people learn to read, spell and write with relative ease, for dyslexics, (about 1 in 10 people),  it can be a very real struggle,  because their brains are ‘wired’ differently.
Research has found significant differences between the brains of ‘normal’ learners and those with dyslexia.  This is the reason why they struggle, not because they are less intelligent. Sometimes this means that dyslexics need specialist help.
I strongly believe that everyone should be given the opportunity and support that they need to learn to read and write. The money that I raise will be added to our bursary fund, which is used to provide those who cannot afford to pay for it themselves with assessment and specialist tuition.  Working at the centre, I have
seen first-hand the real difference that centres like ours can make to people’s lives.
Please help me to change people’s lives. Thank you.
