I will be running the marathon in aid of Brighton & Hove Special Olympics
Why Brighton & Hove Special Olympics? - I admire athletes who challenge themselves and the perceptions others may have of them. In sport we can break down barriers and prejudices. Sport can unify people and bring out strengths within ourselves, as well as within others.
When I train I challenge myself, and when I succeed in achieving my goals I have a sense of pride, self confidence and amazement. I compare my training to that of a top athlete. A Special Olympics athlete knows exactly what I go through; the pain, the tears and the euphoria.
As athletes we share a common experience; emotionally and physically. We set targets, we work hard, very hard and then we have our moments of glory. Moments when we feel we are the best in the world - we have done something extraordinary! These proud moments of achievement are the same for every athlete, irrespective of discipline or ability. We are all amazing.
Special Olympics Athletes need every opportunity to prove themselves and this comes at a cost. I am proud to be raising money to help pay towards these costs and I am proud to consider myself an athlete; just like a Special Olympic athlete and all other athletes. We all challenge ourselves and have our own successes.
I hope our contributions will help them achieve their successes.
