Story

1st May 2012

Sausages fund is now a permanent appeal to cover her long term care  and fund the rehabilitation and treatment of animals who have suffered traumatic injuries or undergone ammuptations.

24th April 2012

Sausage finally went home today after a month intensive care and treatment , her longer term care will continued to be provided by Dogstar Foundation

Apr 21st 2012

Sausage has made an amazing recovery , has found her balance and should hopefully be able to return home to her owners in the next week although she will be still be supported by Dogstar and will continue to receive ongoing out patient care. Sausages fund currently stands at £155 which means this plucky little dog has raised enough money for Dogstar to help more vulnerable dogs who have suffered accidents and injuries.  Sausage would like to keep raising money so more local dogs can become Dogstar dogs so please keep sharing and Thank you from us both , Sam and Sausage

Many of you have followed Sausages journey on Facebook and asked if you could donate towards her care so we have set up a page for her. For those of you new to Sausage her story is below

On March 27th an unnamed dog was brought to the Dogstar Foundation veterinary clinic in Sri Lanka , she had suffered a traffic accident approx a month previously and without proper medical attention her leg had become dangerously infected and the dog had self mutilated herself

The dogs owners were both deaf and although they clearly loved her ( and she them )  , they just did not know how or where to go for help. Luckly a visiting friend knew of our clinic and brought them straight in in but by then her she had an open and infected fracture and the situation looked dire

As she had no name I was over heard calling her a little Sausage ( a nickname that I use for my own UK dog ) , the name stuck and rather suits her

The following  morning 2 of our volunteer vets performed an ammputation but sadly due to the level of infection and further complications when her owners struggled to get her to take medication ( she hates tablets ) she was re admitted a week later and had to undergo 2 further surgeries and it was agreed she would remain with us whilst she fully recovered.

Sausage did not take to 3 legs easily and has to battle to find her balance, steps caused her great problems and when she lost footing she would collapse in a heap with her bottom in the air l waiting for me to rescue her and get her back on remaining legs

On top of all this Sausage also tested positive for Canine ehrlichious which is one of the often fatal tick fevers common here in Sri Lanka  , in her already weakened state and subsequent surgeries the condition was able to take hold and she spent 24 hours battling again to survive

I was due to return to the UK but postponed my flight to remain with Sausage to give her round the clock support for an extra week

This little dog is nothing sort of a miracle , she has battled against all the odds and Dogstars small but dedicated team are committed to helping her fully recover.

I estimate that £75 will help us fund her entire medications  , purchase supplements and provide extra food  plus cover ongoing visits and veterinary care once she can return home

In the event we raise more than £75 or we do not need the full amount any balance will be used to help the other dogs and cats we work with

Further details of our work can be found on our website www.dogstarfoundation.com  via our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/DogstarFoundation  or by emailing me direct sam@dogstarfoundation.com

Sausage really is a mircale , I have lost count of the times I thought would lose her and even when she was dangerously ill she would still give me a small tail wag when I spoke with her

If you cannot support our appeal could I ask that you please share the link to freinds and contacts on Facebook , Twitter etc

Thank you for reading this and for your support
