Story

Thank you for visiting our Justgiving Page and hopefully showing your support by sponsoring our upcoming running efforts!!

There are 3 events which we are raising money for.  The ladies:  Tracey (Beths mammy), Lynne (Beths auntie), Fiona R, Fiona W, Lynda, Sheena & Jocelyn will be taking part in the Womens 10K in May and Gavin (Beths daddy) will be tackling the Great Scottish Run in September.  (Gavin was itching to show his support at the Womens 10K, but we had to break it to him gently that the clue was in the title, and wearing a skirt wouldn't cut it - so we'll have to hold him back until September).

Gavin & Tracey have been so touched by the support so far that they are really giving everyone value for money and will be completing the Balfron 10K on Saturday 25th April.  Good luck!!!

For all of us, taking part in these events is a first time experience, a real personal challenge and well, a bit flippin scary (mainly for our legs and lungs)!!!!

But what will carry us on past the finishing line is the thought that we can raise money for 2 very worthwhile and important charities - the Scottish Cot Death Trust and Bliss Scotland.  SO PLEASE SPONSOR US AND MAKE THE PAIN WORTHWHILE!!!

And here's a bit about why we chose these 2 charities....

Beth Conway was born 4th March 2002 - she was born early at 25 weeks, weighing just 1.5 pounds.  She was the most beautiful, perfect little girl and a real wee fighter!  But the trauma of being born so early was too much for her little body to cope with so we had to say goodbye to our wee angel and in the early hours of 29th March 2002 she slipped away in her mammy and daddy's arms!

Beth was cared for in the special care baby unit at the Southern General Hospital for 4 weeks where she was given the absolute best chance of survival because of the fantasic treatment and care she received there!  When a baby is born prematurely, the vital care that they recieve after birth can have a profound impact on the rest of their lives.  And for families struggling to cope with having a baby in special care, this will be one of the most difficult, emotional and stressful times of their lives.

1 in every 9 babies in the UK is born either premature or sick. That is over 80,000 babies every year. Every 6 minutes another baby is admitted to a special care baby unit.

Bliss is dedicated to improving the care of all babies born premature, sick or with low birthweight.  All their work has a significant impact on both the survival and long term health of our most vulnerable babies.

The second charity we are supporting is the Scottish Cot Death Trust - where Lynne is the Community Fundraiser and Lynda is the Community Services Nurse.  A child dies every 9 days in Scotland from cot death and the devastation that the sudden and unexpected loss of a child has on a family is indescribable and devastating.

The Trust is the only charity in Scotland dedicated to raising awareness of cot death, funding research in a bid to discover why cot deaths occur, educating professionals and supporting all the families who have been devastated by the loss of a child to cot death.  With less than 3% of the annual income coming from the Government, your support is needed more than ever.

When you are blessed with a child you can't imagine ever having to say goodbye, you shouldn't have to!!  Please help us remember Beth and all the many other children throughout Scotland who have been lost to cot death or born prematurely - please dig deep, support our fundraising and help us save little lives throughout Scotland...

Every 9 days in Scotland a baby or child will die suddenly and unexpectedly - many of their families will never know why they died. As the only charity in Scotland dedicated to the issue of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI), we provide support, education resources and fund research.
