Thank you for visiting our charity page.

The Aspinall Foundation has been at the forefront of breeding and re-introducing critically endangered animals since it was first started by John Aspinall 30 years ago. We have two wild animal parks in Kent, housing many rare and endangered animals

Scottish Wildcat Felis silvestris grampia:  The Scottish wild cat is one of the rarest animals in the world and with less than 400 left in the wild this animal is considered critically endangered. It is a large striped cat weighing up to 9kg. The coat which is very dense varies from greyish brown to a yellowish brown with distinctive dark brown/black stripes. The Scottish wildcat has been persecuted for many years and with the arrival of domesticated cats, hybridisation occurred. With this and deforestation their numbers have dwindled and are now only found in secluded areas of Scotland.

We, here at Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks are organising a charity evening in support of these rare cats. We will be holding a Scottish wildcat hootenanny, which will be held in our historic mansion within Port Lympne Wild Animal Park.

The evening will consist of a buffet dinner, charity auction, live entertainment (band), raffle and drinks. [7th November 2009] We are hoping to raise £20,000 this money going going towards the building of a breeding enclosure for the wildcats. Once we have established a breeding colony we will be looking to re-introduce this critically endangered cat back to the wild.
