Story
Welcome to my half marathon challenge!
I hate running. I have always hated running. Those of you who know me from school might remember how much I dreaded athletics and cross country (and PE in general!). So why have I willingly volunteered to run the Royal London Parks Half Marathon for People & Planet in October?
Well, firstly, I have been working in the People & Planet support office in Oxford since last summer and a member of the P&P students campaign network for 4 years. This year I've been travelling around the country running workshops with sixth formers on trade justice, climate change and the HIV/AIDS crisis. I've spoken to and supported some pretty inspiring campaigners. P&P is student led and its campaigns are democratically chosen by its student network. P&P does some really amazing work and I'd love to see it flourish and fulfil all of its ambitions without being constantly constrained by finances. For more info about People & Planet http://peopleandplanet.org
Secondly, I know that this is going to be very challenging for me. I want to prove to myself that I can do it. No longer will my thoughts about sport and running be dominated by memories of always coming last in the cross country!
SO...
That is why I have put myself through 6 months of training to run this half marathon. I'd love your support and your sponsorship and in return I pledge to transform myself from an unfit near running-a-phobic, who can barely run the distance between two lamp posts, to a fit and raring to runner of 13 miles (arrrggggg!!!) all in the name of People & Planet!
Sponsor me whatever you can, let me know your email address if I don't already have it and I'll update you on how the training is going in the run up to the big day on 12th October!
What would Miss Spencely say, ay?! (secondary school PE teacher)
