Great North Swim 2009 · 12 September 2009 ·

Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC) was founded in 2004 by a mother whose two sons had been diagnosed with leukodystrophy. She recognised the severe lack of information and support available and wanted to make sure that no one had to face leukodystrophy alone.

Cut the sleeves & legs of that wetsuit & it now swims fine, or rather, I do!

Did a practice swim in that olde enemy of mine, the sea last week, only managed 0.82miles due to childish panic of sea.

Still feeling very positive & confident about this though!

Very Very Very excited for next week!!

Thanks Folks xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

OMG!!  It's getting close!  I HATE the bloomin' wetsuit & have found out swimmin' against the tide in a bouncy aid is tough werk!   At least once a week (during the week) I swim 3/4's mile ~ no touching the edges or stopping or standing whatsoever is my rule, if I need to stop I tread water until I'm right again.   Last week (on Sunday, when I had time!) I swam 2km non-stop, Sundays I swim as far in the pool as I can before the kiddies arrive LOL..  But it is cosy & warm at Peckham Pulse, too easy!    My time is still approx 55sec per length, per length being 25metres ~ that means about 55mins I think for 1 mile.  I know it'll be tougher on the day, with the damned wetsuit (a nightmare getting it orf!), but I do know I'm up for it & able.  Last outdoor in the wetsuit swim is in Ramsgate on the 29th.  I hope I get the tide times a bit better suited Ha Ha!

Thanks to everyone supoorting me BTW.. Flippin' fantastic!!!

Wow!  I must be bonkers to go swimmin' in freezing rough seas!! A whole mile?  I must be absalooooootly crackers! But do it I will, oh yes!

It's for a great cause.  I'm trying to raise a bit of money & maybe some awareness of ALD (ADRENO-LEUKO-DYSTROPHY.)

My good pals Alex & Aiden are sufferers, Alex sadly is profoundly disabled, but his younger brother Aiden had a bone marrow transplant last year & should get the all clear next year.

Their Mum Sara started up ALD LIFE & raises dough for treatments & respites for other ALD kids/adults & their parents & carers to get a bit of respite every now & then.  She's amazing!

So pleasey please please stick your hands in your pockets coz these people need as much help as they can get.  The illness is relentless & sufferers need extensive care.  It's exhausting work.

Thank you kindly to all my friends & family.. Yooouuuuuurrrrrr GGrrrrrreeeeaaatttt!!!!!

Love Saz

I thought I'd just add a note to explain my training plan.

Once a month I'm going to go to Brighton to swim from the pier to Marine Parade which is just over a mile.  That should sort me out!!!
