We recently decided we needed an adventure and have chosen to take part in the Irish leg of the Scally Rally. This involves driving over 1000 miles around Ireland in a car that cost £100.

We'll be travelling from the Titanic Quarter in Belfast, where the great ship was built, to Cork where the last passengers boarded for the fateful maiden voyage across the Atlantic, journeying through Irelands most northern point, Malin Head and it’s most southern point, Mizen Head.

The route follows the northern, western and part of the southern coasts of Ireland, driving on some of the most scenic roads in Europe and passing over many of Ireland’s famous Rally Stages, from Atlantic Drive in the North to the famous Tim Healy pass in the Kerry Mountains.

As if driving that far in our little rustbucket wasn't challenging enough, we have decided to raise money for a very deserving charity. Alzheimers, the most common form of dementia, is a devastating disease not only for the person living with it but for their family and carers. The Alzheimer's Society work to provide help and information to the people affected by dementia and their services include day care and home care, as well as support and befriending services to help partners and families cope with the demands of caring.
