Story
Hello!
From the 16th to 21st of September 2008 I shall attempt to cycle solo along the Pennine Cycleway
from Hadfield (near Manchester) to Berwick-upon-Tweed. A distance of about 280 route miles.
It’s a crazy ambition I’ve had for a few years and thought I could also raise a few pounds for a good cause in the process. My chosen charity is the British Heart Foundation. It would be great to hit £280 as this works out to £1 per mile!
About the Cycleway…
The popular cycleway mostly uses quiet country roads but also includes some canal paths and old railway routes (thanks to Dr Beeching). It’s not to be confused with the nearby Pennine Way.
A ride takes in some of the most stunning and sometimes remotest scenery England has to offer. It has many long climbs which are equally (and thankfully) rewarded with long down hill sections.
A brief crossing of the border is encountered before coming back into England for the finish (and a well deserved pint) at Berwick.
