My story

UPDATE:

It was quite a tough course and I completed it in 3 hours 26 minutes and 26 seconds, which is just under 10 minutes slower than my fastest time and my slowest of 5 marathons.  However considering all the walking around that I did in New York and lack of sleep it wasn’t too bad.

I started reasonably well but tired at the Queensboro Bridge, which is the one in Simon & Garfunkle’s "59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)" I felt far from Groovy as I went over it to the 16 mile mark and was worried that the next 10 miles would be a bit tough. Although the "slow down you're going too fast" bit was quite appropriate as I ran at 3 hrs 12min pace up to 15 miles.

When I realised that I wasn't on for a good time I played to the crowd a bit, high-fiving the children and waving to the crowds, silly really but quite enjoyable.

If anybody is thinking of doing just one marathon this would be the one. The race is huge (nearly 40,000 runners) and the whole of New York seems to be gripped by the Marathon (don't forget the emphasis is on the third syllable).

All in all an awesome experience.  I've got lots more New York and running stories to relate so when I next talk to you I will undoubtedly bore you with them.

I will still take any kind donations anybody has to offer..

If you are not so keen on sponsoring online, or want me to finish the race prior to parting with any cash, send me a pledge by email: neil.parry@virgin.net or text/call me on 07748 775530 and I will add you to my sponsors.

All of the money that I raise will be donated to the charity - I will cover all of the costs of the trip myself no matter how much I raise.

Here's the bit about justgiving:

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Get Kids Going! will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.
