Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit the Scott - Amundsen Centenary Race JustGiving page.
Our fundraising project was simple. From Oct 2011 - Jan 2012, five serving soldiers of the British Army celebrated the centenary of one of the greatest stories of heroism, duty and sacrifice - the race to the South Pole between Captain Scott and Roald Amundsen. We successfully retraced the exact routes used in 1911/12 across 900 miles of the Antarctic Continent which took us in excess of two months to complete. We returned to UK on 26th Jan 2012.
Why did we do it ? Notwithstanding the celebration of the centenary event and paying tribute to Captain Scott's ultimate sacrifice we have been supporting The Royal British Legion's project to build four Personnel Recovery Centres for injured servicemen from the Armed Forces. All five of us who took part believe passionately in doing our bit to support our fellow men and women - most facing life changing mental and physical injuries.
Thank you so much for your donation. It will have an everlasting benefit to those servicemen and women who face a demanding life ahead.
