Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My nephew Ryan is 8 years old and is a gorgeous, inquisitive, imaginative, entertaining happy little boy. It is hard to believe that when he was a 2 1/2 year old boy, just a baby really, his world was turned upside down after the diagnosis of a malignant brain tumour.

The months that followed were hell. I can only tell the story as his uncle, and I remember how painful it was to see Ryan going through chemotherapy and then daily radiotherapy and general anesthetics.  I can not even start to comprehend how hard this time was for my brother Dean, and his wife Alex, and of course, little Ryan. Dean had to stop working and he and Alex spent a huge amount of time taking Ryan back and forth to Southampton or Poole hospital. Alex spent night after night curled up on the edge of Ryan’s bed and Dean was able to stay close by thanks to accomodation supplied by CLIC Sargent.

During this time the support and help offered by Clic Sargent was invaluable to them. In my mind, when I think of Clic Sargent, I always think of it as 'Ryan's charity' because I know how much their support meant to Dean & Alex and how it helped them through their most difficult times.

The good news is that Ryan is well and his MRI scans show no signs of the cancer at all. I am running the Virgin London Marathon in 2013 to help raise as much money as I can for Clic. I know that in the current economic climate it is hard for people to spare any cash, so I am asking you for £1! If everyone I know is happy to spare a quid then I will be well on my way to making a big difference.
