On 7th September 15 inspired representatives from Scottish Sea Farms will pound the streets of Glasgow undertaking the 2008 Great Scottish Run.

This was quite an undertaking for many and has involved pillaging the Runners World website for inspiration.  Training plans have been selected and applied diligently: "From couch to zimmer frame in 6 easy steps" was extremely popular - less so was "Feel the pain, grit the teeth and do it anyway - The Darbyshire Method".

To say that preparing to run the 10k or half marathon in full public view was life changing is an understatement.  Many of us have not ran since school sports days and we have amazed ourselves that a) we could do it, b) we shrink when we do it and c) that we even enjoyed it.  But the inspiration for this project was always present.

On the day our group will cover almost 200km on 2 legs and in doing so we hope to raise £5000 for Glasgow's Beatson Oncology Centre.  The Beatson has a special connection for the Gallagher family.  The unit and staff were involved in the treatment and care of Gerard Gallagher, the younger brother of our Managing Director.  The Beatson is a local oncology centre committed to fight brain cancer and ever in need of our support.  As a mark of respect for both the Gallagher family and the work of the Beatson, collegues and friends at SSF wished to make a lasting contribution in the memory of Gerard - That day will be Sunday 7th September 2008.
