My story

Welcome to Scuba Santas 2009!

Please see http://www.scuba-santas.co.uk for more information!

We are are a group of UK scuba divers brought together through a diving forum called Yorkshire Divers. Each year (ok this will be our second year) around christmas time we dress up in santa costumes to raise money for a charity.

In 2008 we raised a few hundred pounds for the RNLI with 8 participating santas, a viking, a snowman, and a fairy. In 2008 we had at 65 times the numbers raising over £1000. The event will be held at an inland dive site called Vobster Quay in Somerset. Each year the inland dive site were great supporters of this event and for this reason we return with happy memories.

In previous years we have raised a total of over £2500. This year we are aiming for over £5000, at which point Vobster will donate £1000.

If you would like to take part, you will need to be a qualified SCUBA diver, but non divers are always welcome to support from the shore.

We will be diving in Santa outfits and, if we get the go-ahead, will be aiming to break the world record for the largest number of simultaneous scuba diving Father Christmas’ at one time!

Not only is this a great advert for British scuba diving, it also raises funds for those in need at Christmas, and despite the freezing temperatures puts a smile on some otherwise very grumpy people’s faces!

Taking place on 20th December, in a 36 acre flooded quarry, the event raises funds for the RNLI by getting as many divers underwater at the same, dressed as Santa. Particpants raise funds through sponsorship, or directly through this site. The more cash raised on JustGiving, the more Vobster Diving will donate to help this valued service for all sea users.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
