Hello all, if you've reached this page, hopefully you are about to sponsor me to run the London Marathon on 26 April 2009. THANK YOU! I’d like to tell you about the reason I am running.
I am running the London Marathon in memory of my wife, Lisa. Most of you will know her as Lisa Bawden, as she was only Lisa Cross for a couple of years.
Lisa passed away in June last year following a regrettably short fight with stomach cancer. With less than a year between the diagnosis and her passing it was a agonizing period for us both and everyone close to us. Lisa remained resilient and positive throughout and her love remains constant.
For this reason I am running in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care.
Lisa and I were married in 2006 but had been together for over ten years and known each other much longer. As a partner she was perfect; loving, caring and giving. I hope to do her memory justice on the 26.
I would also implore you to support me not just for Lisa but also for Cornwall Hospice Care and in particular Mount Edgcumbe Hospice in St. Austell for all the work they do. The care and support they gave Lisa and I was nothing short of amazing. Hopefully by completing the 26.2miles, and with your generosity, I can go some way to repay the kindness they showed and ensure that this care can continue.
Now I’m sure some of you will be questioning my ability to complete this undertaking. I have run the marathon once before in 2005 when I completed it in a time of 3hrs 55minutes. Despite being 4 years older, I’m obviously aiming to beat this in 2009. Last time my training was sporadic, this time I’m trying to be more disciplined.
My favourite memory of 2005 is not of the race itself but are the training sessions when Lisa rode her bike alongside me.
Training this time is going well so far, I’d like to think I will be able to beat my previous mark.
To all family, friends, colleagues and supporters of the Hospice, I hope you can sponsor me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Steve PS Due to everyone's generosity I've upped my target AGAIN!! as I don't want to rest on my laurels, thankyou for all your donations! My allocated race number is 37478, keep an eye out!
