Fundraising for Hope for Uganda
Story
On the 4th July, I will be putting my trust in a complete stranger and jumping out of a plane 2 miles above the ground and freefalling for 50 seconds at 120mph... Crazy - yes, terrifying - yes, but you can make it worthwhile!! Every penny you donate will go straight to Hope for Uganda as I will be paying for the cost of the dive. Please, every little helps - money goes a long way in Africa :-) Thank you so much.
This charity is very close to my heart and this summer I am going to help with some of their work in the Kasese District, Western Uganda. This is one of the poorest areas in Uganda - many of the villages have no electricity, and water requires many hours of walking. The aim of all Hope for Uganda projects is to empower local communities to deal with their own problems, enhancing a sense of independence and ownership. Such projects include:
- 8 women’s groups for members to learn how to earn income from small businesses and farming to provide food for their families. We have given out loans to help them get their businesses off the ground and repayments are now being made which will be used to establish more of these groups. - The purchase of chickens and goats to supply milk and eggs for food and income to, for example, Margaret’s AIDS Orphanage in Kajwenge. - HFU has built extension pipelines which so far provide clean drinking water to 3 village communities including a health clinic in Rwesande. - Groups for street kids to come together and learn how to earn money to help them build a more positive future for themselves. This group has grown from 38 to 162 children and young people in just 2 years. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
