If you have been affected by the terrible disaster caused by Cyclone Nargis in Burma and are witnessing the growing humanitarian crisis, please read on. Merlin (http://www.merlin.org.uk/) is a UK charity which is one of a few agencies who are being granted visas for their emergency teams to enter the country. Through your donation, you will be enabling Merlin to deliver much needed medical relief to the injured in this critical post disaster period.
Merlin is currently one of the only a few international NGOs in the Laputta part of this region, and knows the area well having worked there since 2005. They have sent a team and supplies from their projects in the north of Burma into the worst-affected areas, who are caring for the sick and examining the health needs both in terms of injuries and disease rates.
Background - As you will have seen on the news, a massive cyclone hit Myanmar (Burma) on Saturday, 3rd May. Cyclone Nargis has caused extensive destruction to this already vulnerable country. It is now being reported that as many as 100,000 may have perished with over a million people left without shelter, water, food and medical facilities. Winds reached 120 miles an hour, and a wave up to 12 feet high smashed through towns and villages flattening fragile homes. Hundreds of thousands are without shelter, clean water and sanitation. One of the worst affected areas is the Ayeyarwaddy delta region where up to 95% of houses have been destroyed in some villages.
Donations - Merlin have confirmed that all funds raised by Serco employees, families and friends through this website will go directly to the Cyclone Relief Effort. Please give as much as you can.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP
