Stratford upon Avon to London: Shakespeare's Way · 8 June 2007

The Shakespeare Hospice offers specialised care and support to patients, their loved ones and carers across South Warwickshire and the surrounding areas. Our reach extends beyond the traditional Hospice walls, providing expert support within our local community and patients’ own homes.

Story

On August 4th, I plan to walk 146 miles from the birthplace of William Shakespeare, located near my home in Stratford Upon Avon, to his first theatre situated on the South Bank of the River Thames in London...... in nine days.

It's a long distance path called, not unsurprisingly, "Shakespeare's Way". It follows a route that Shakespeare himself would have used to commute between his home and his theatre in the capital -- something I replicate multiple times each week (thankfully a little quicker) nearly 400 years later! The path meanders through some of the most gloriously beautiful countryside in England called the Cotswolds and passes through towns along the way such as Chipping Norton, Woodstock, Oxford, Marlow, Windsor and Kew. It culminates in a final stretch along the River Thames past Westminster to the Globe Theatre.

I'll be doing this walk to raise money for the Shakespeare Hospice. Their details are located on the bottom left of this page and there is an explanation of the service they provide here. It's an incredible organisation that is available free for anyone who needs help at the end of their life, so please give generously!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Shakespeare Hospice will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Finally, my company has very kindly agreed to match the amount of money I raise up to a maximum of 1k. So, if you donate £10, they'll donate £10. Combined with the tax relief, that means a £10 donation is worth nearly £23 pounds to the Shakespeare Hospice. Folks abroad be aware: your donatons will be in pounds sterling, so please ensure you are not donating too much!

Many thanks for your support.
