Story
Hi All, I am raising money for the Stroke Association in Memory of my Mum.
WHAT a DAY the 8-8-9 turned out to be!!! One i won't be forgetting in a hurry i can tell you!, it was challenging in every way you could possibly think of!, but great in so many too.
The group i was in was great, everyone was very supportive and reminded each other of the reason why we were putting ourselves through the pain and fear of completing the course!, I met a fab girl called Jo, who reminded me at one stage to 'do opposites' before venturing out onto the 1 inch thick cable whilst ten (thousand) meters in the air!! and the initial jump off on the first long zip line, both Jo and a bloke called Phil were giving me words of encouragement to take the plunge and drop into the land of 'unknown', and from that moment on, we kind of helped each other round the course best we could with words of encouragement, laughter and conversation!.
I didn't know what i was letting myself in for and you may remember that i said i didn't know which of the options i was going to have to do???............................. well let me tell you......... IT WAS ALL OF THEM!!! lol
A total of FIVE sections - Which got tougher, and higher as you went round.....
We made a total of 39 crossings be it via bridges which swang, swayed and wobbled, planks of wood just suspended on ropes, zip lines, tight-rope walking, etc. Ooh and there was the 'alice in wonderland bridges' we had to cross too, where the wood was unevenly spaced and opposite diagonals and stuff, which made it look like something out of the movie, and then there was the 'huggy nets' which were like fishing nets, which when you stood on them the weight of you made them just suck into your body cocooning you as you tried to walk across (which was a hard with buttons on the cargo trousers i can tell you!, I had to go back and keep untangling myself!.. lol) all of which Totaled 775meters in length!
Climbed to the Highest point which was14 meters located in zone 4 on the Zip Wire platform!!
Tackled the Longest Zip Wire of 230 meters long -- you couldn't even see from one side to the other it was that far through the tree's and across a ravine, this is the one where it took that long to cross the adrenalin (which kicks in before and whilst you jump off) actually has time to wear off!, leaving you suspended, flying through the air holding on for dear life!, i remember looking up at these two little wheels which were holding me aloft, and thinking to myself 'It's OK, There's no smoke - We are NOT on fire!'......lol
AND crossed the longest Log bridge of 16 meters '..... not to mention ALL 5 rope ladders we had to climb, the one on section 5 was the WORST..after climbing up what felt like a mountain from the previous zip line landing zone, honest it was SO steep, I was totally out of breath and exhausted after that climb, and then was faced with the final rope ladder, and OMG they saved the best til last!!! I nicknamed it the 'never ending ladder' it just went on, and on, and on, and on up into the tree's to the platform!,
Oooooooooh, did i mention the monkey jump thing??, kinda like a jump off and then the rope swing catches you and flings you towards this cargo net, then you have to climb to the top onto the platform!!, and all this was just after the mountain trek up the hill and never ending ladder climb!.... lol - and after all that i felt like flaking out at that point! lol
ALL I CAN SAY IS - I HAD A BLAST - HAD A LAUGH - AND MET SOME NICE PEOPLE ALONG THE WAY!!!
And all this whilst i was raising money for a worthy cause, it doesn't get much better than that, eh! - and I would most definitely do it again!
Donations through the just giving website will be accepted until the 8th November 2009, so even though you missed the date of the challenge, feel free to dig deep and donate now - Whatever you can, be it a couple of quid or more, all donations are gratefully received! - please remember to tick gift aid if you are a tax payer, as this then adds more money the charity can claim back on the tax of your generous donations
