My story

 

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.  I was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer in 1998 at the age of 37 years, this followed several operations and many different types of chemotherapy.  By 2005 the cancer had advanced and I had my bladder removed, along with other organs., I now have a neo bladder. During this time my family (Husband and four children) received help and support from the Hospice.  The Hospice staff visited me at home when I was unable to leave the house and organised help, along with counselling.  Their help and encouragement really assisted me with my long recovery. 

After a hard battle and with the immense help of all my family and friends, I have been able to rebuild my life and take up running.  I have completed six half-marathons, my last half-marathon - Nike MK 8/3/09, I achieved a Personal Best of 1hr 47mins!  On 5/4/09 I ran the challenging Oakley 20 Mile race in 2hrs 55 mins! On 26/4/09 I ran the London Marathon in difficult conditions for Willen Hospice in a wonderful time of 4hrs 27mins!!   I feel it is a great honour to be able to give back in return, the support the Hospice has very kindly given me and other patients.  I hope that I have inspired others with my recovery and determination, by running the marathon and encouraged those with cancer to have hope of achieving their dreams.  I am the first known patient with a mitrofanoff neo-bladder to run a marathon!  Thanks to everyone who came down to London to support me, you encouraged me all the way.

My family helped me organise a Charity Party which was held on 14/3/09 and for Charity Tickets/ Raffle monies, we managed to raise a total of £954 for Willen Hospice!  Thanks to all those who attended and supported the event.  Walton High School students have raised £824, thank you to everyone at the school.   Thank you for all your support, every amount counts, so please sponsor me now!
