We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

Hi,

Many thanks for visiting this page which is set to raise money for the Katie Walker Cancer Trust, part of the Teenage Cancer Trust.   Katie died last year, having lost her third battle with cancer.   It was her wish raise money for research so that others would not suffer as she did - though the lovely smile opposite remained on her face, even through the very painful times.    During her treatment Katie also made a video for Jimmy Teens to help other young people overcome some of the fear associated with the treatment.  She made some really good friends in Teenage Cancer Unit at Weston Park in Sheffield.  Unfortunately only 1 of them survived - a very talented bright and energetic young man - but what a huge loss of talent we suffered when the others sadly lost their fight.

Losing teenagers to cancer must be about the biggest waste of talent I can think of.

To raise £20k for the Trust I  will be trekking up (and down!!!) Mt Meru and Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania from the 28 September this year.   I am funding the trip myself, so all the funds donated will go straight into the Trust.   £20k will take us approximately 3months closer to a cure for this awful disease. (and dont forget for every donation you make the taxman adds to it so your donation becomes even more generous!)

Kilimanjaro is 5894m high, so you could say that Meru at 4566m is a bit of a warm up. The trek is going to be hard work, for anyone who's attempted Scarfell Pike, its about the same as doing this everyday for 11 days (and without the oxygen at the top!!!)

There are a loads of other events taking place to raise the £75k needed fund 1 years research.   For more information on Katies Story please visit her website www.katiewalkercancertrust.co.uk or read her story "lessons in bravery" published in Thats Life magazine - www.thatslife.com.

This is my challenge of a lifetime - and your chance to try and save another talented young life.

Please give generously.

Many Thanks

Sharon.
