On December 6th 2005, by way of a simple fundraising vote, the public voted to shave off my hair. The 'shave-its' beat the 'keep-its' by £515 to £189.
A total of £704.86 was raised for Cancer Research UK during the online voting. The two competing web pages are now closed, but to see the results and comments I have included the links at the bootom of the page.
In line with the cries of the baying online crowd, I shaved my head on Saturday 10th December. A series of auctions on the night with breaks for ritual humilation ensured that more money was raised on the night:
The right to cut the first hairs was sold to the night's opening bidder for £22. The next bidder bought the right to cut close above the ears for £25; the sides (leaving the top) were sold for £20 leaving a BA Barracus mohican; this was shaved off leaving only a tuft at the front for £60; finally the tuft went for a tuftworthy £5. The evening raised many laughs and also another £132 for Cancer Research. The amount raised on this page represents the very generous bidding of the people who came to support the shave on the night, and kind donations from people who have since heard tell of the Charity Head Shave.
