Story

Warm greetings to you all,

I am forming part of a RLC team to swim across theEnglish Channel (God help us!), as part of a Pan British Army Cross English Channel Relay Race, aptly titled ‘Ex CHANNEL TITAN’.  This is to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund.

The Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), which needs no intro - but can be found here; www.armybenfund.org

Exercise “CHANNEL TITAN”  is the inaugural Six Team Inter-Corps Cross Channel Swimming Relay race which will take place 20 -24 Jul 08, This date could fluctuate dependent on  weather and sea conditions!  The event will involve teams from the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, Royal Signals, Adjutant General Corps, Royal Logistics Corps, Royal Armoured Corps, Army Air Corps and The Royal Engineers.

Media for “CHANNEL TITAN”  will be based at: www.armyopenwaterswimming.co.uk which will in time resemble: www.channeleagle.co.uk.  Last year’s event raised in excess of £16,000 with donations made on and off-line.  This website had 25,000 hits from 50 countries, including 5,000 hits on the race day.  The BBC covered this event both nationally and locally.  This event was also articulated on local radio’s, local and national press and in publications that reach the wider defence community.  This is hoped to be replicated this year.

Open-water swimming is an expanding sport in the UK and will be trialled in the Beijing Olympics.  It is a tough and demanding discipline and is well suited to Military life.

This event is going to be very arduous and cold, so PLEASE sponsor me,

Thank you kindly

Thank you to all off line sponors the money has been paid direct to the ABF.  If you want to read about the swim go to www.armyopenwaterswimming.co.uk

Thanks again - much appreciated.
