My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Shelt and Matt's 3 Peak Challenge  page.

In June, 2011, we will be doing a 3 peak challenge to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust. Each of us doing the charity event MUST raise £1,150 (£2,300.00). Anything more is a bonus for the charity.

Here's an overview of our challenge:

Our challenge is to climb and travel between the highest mountain peaks in England, Scotland and Wales. This is attempted over a continuous 24 hour period. We will walk a distance of around 25 miles, the height climbed is approximately 10,000 feet, and the distance covered between the peaks is some 450 miles. The Three Peaks Challenge will take place between the 16th and 19th June.

Ben Nevis - Scotland: 1,344 metres
Scafell Pike - England: 978 metres
Snowdon - Wales: 1,085 metres

We're doing this challenge through our work place (Play.com) here's what Teenage Cancer Trust have to say:

"Too many teenagers are being cared for in inappropriate surroundings with very young children or elderly patients. Too many have never met another person their age with cancer. Too many are not given the best chances of survival. Teenage Cancer Trust has achieved a lot since building its first unit in 1990, including funding 16 other units across the UK, but there is still much to be done. We want to build enough units so that every young person with cancer has access to one. This is why we need Play.com’s support to help us make this happen."

It'll be painful, but fun, and rewarding knowing we're doing something for cancer suffers, a subject unfortunatley most of us wont be able to avoid.

Well, that's that. Get ya dosh out because we've got some serious cash to raise :)

Thanks!

Every day in the UK, six teenagers are diagnosed with cancer. At Teenage Cancer Trust, we understand that cancer doesn’t stop these teenagers being teenagers. We know that young people have a much better chance if they are treated by teenage cancers experts, in an environment tailored to their needs. So we have created specialist units that aren’t like ordinary cancer wards. Everything about them has been designed to give teenagers the very best chance of a positive outcome. And we want every young person with cancer in this country to have that chance.
