We have not had a gift registry because we don't want stuff; we are fortunate to have most things we need and if you gave us something, we wouldn't know where to put it :)
However, quite a few people have said they would like to do the traditional wedding gifts; especially those who are not coming to the wedding have mentioned that a wedding gift registry would help make up for their absence. We have decided that the best wedding gift for us would be contribution to a cause we both strongly feel about - education for the deprived in India. We are grateful for the opportunities granted to us by our own educational backgrounds and would like to pay the gift forward.
The reason we chose Asha for Education is that this organisation is run by the voluntary efforts of professionals and students on a zero overhead basis, i.e, all your money would go straight to running schools and related community projects in remote parts of the country, where they are needed the most. Asha keeps detailed tab on how their funding contributes to these projects.
