Story

Why are pirates always so angry?
Because they AAARRGGHHH!!!

I'm running the BUPA Great Manchester Run 2012 to raise money for BASIC in memory of my late husband Dave.

Dave died unexpectedly at the age of 29, just four weeks after we had got married, sending me from the height of happiness to the depth of despair. He died from a sub-arachnoid haemorrhage and I am raising money for BASIC because if Dave had survived, their services would have been invaluable to us.

As this will be my third 10k run, I have decided to up the stakes. My fastest time was 1 hour, 11 minutes and 11 seconds so this year, I'm aiming to complete the course in 1 hour! This might not seem very hard to achieve but trust me it is and with the run on 20th May, I'm now turning to you all to help push me through the barrier and see if I can get over the finish line at 59 minutes and 59 secs!

The deeper you dig, the guiltier I'll feel if I don't really push myself to finish my training so it is hands in your pocket time. Why not post your favourite bad joke when you make your donation? It'll keep me laughing as I keep running!

I have been lucky enough to meet someone new, who has given me the opportunity to live life to the full again and we got married last September. Ian understands that Dave will always be a part of me and my life - I think about him every day. Ian has supported me throughout my training, shouting encouragement from the side lines and helping to make sure I go out after work when I'd really rather not! Taking part in this run is one of the ways that I can help everyone remember Dave - think of him often, with love and affection.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, your money will be sent directly to the charity and they'll make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation.
