5k run today to finish the week off. I beat my best time of 33:43 by almost 2 minutes! New personal best of 31:56 - now to manage 5k in under 30 minutes...
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page: I have chosen to run for Refuge as it provides essential services to help to empower and support women to rebuild their lives free from domestic violence. Refuge receives comparatively little support compared to other charities (in 2009 The Donkey Sanctuary received £20 million in voluntary donations; Refuge received £1.7 million) and the work they do is so vital.
I have never run a marathon before and I am excited (and a bit scared) to be running this distance for the first time in my favourite city, to support my favourite charity. Thank you so much for donating and supporting me - knowing you're all behind me will help me get to the end of that very, very long 26.2 mile road!
- One woman in four experiences domestic violence at some point in her life
- Two women are killed each week by a current or former partner
- Domestic violence accounts for almost a quarter of all violent crime
- In 90% of domestic violence incidents in family household, children are in the same or next room
- On average a woman will be assaulted by her partner or ex-partner 35 times before reporting it to the police
- Thirty women a day attempt suicide to escape domestic violence
