Story
On October 26th, 2018, our daughter Kallipateira was Stillborn just two weeks before her due date. As I held Kallipateira in my arms I made her a promise that I would do her proud and continue her legacy by helping to support other parents who have experienced the death of a baby/babies, and also to help save babies lives.
In May 2019 we experienced a miscarriage at 9 weeks of pregnancy.
Kallipateira's death was preventable, and she should be here in person. Many stillbirths could be prevented yet around the UK and beyond it continues to happen daily. These are healthy, beautiful babies that should be alive!
This summer on July 16th during the UK record breaking heatwave I walked from the Tommy's research centre in London (St Thomas’s Hospital) to the Tommys rainbow clinic and Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre in Manchester at Saint Mary’s Hospital - a total of 180 miles nonstop in just 55 hours.
As Kallipateira's Dad I need to channel my grief and pain and on the final day of Baby Loss Awareness Week on Saturday 15th October 2022 I shall put my trainers back on for a special one-day event.
I will walk the famous Halifax climb Shibden Wall a total of 50 times. This was part of The Tour De Yorkshire 2017.
Shibden Wall is a real brute of a climb. Half a mile averaging 15% is hard enough, but throw in some tough cobbles, and it makes it a real classic climb. It starts off on tarmac, but the cobbles will soon start.
The Shibden Wall (Lee Lane) is ALL of that at 15% average grade over its 900 meters. This climb is the only cobbled road in Yorkshire of Simon Warren's 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs.
I will be taking this on just over a week before Kallipateira's 4th Birthday. Every day is difficult, but the month of October brings much more grief, pain and tears so doing this so close to Kallipateira's birthday is personal.
During the event I will be speaking out for all dads whose babies have died.
It would make my day to raise a fantastic amount with all funds raised helping to save babies lives nationally supporting Professor Alexander Heazell and his teams at The Tommys Rainbow clinic and Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre in Manchester.
Please help me by donating and asking all your friends and family to support. Please share on all your social media pages too.
Thank you for your continued support.
