Refugee Action provides direct support to people seeking safety in the UK, as well as campaigning for their rights. Our vision is that refugees and people seeking asylum will be welcome in the UK. They will get justice, live free of poverty and be able to successfully rebuild their lives.

Story

What is this thing you want money for?

On July 23rd 2011 three woefully unprepared and ill advised travellers will begin a journey eastwards and far in vehicle so unsuitable that most suburban mothers wouldn't even chance it on the school run. Our destination: Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia - 10,000 miles, 20 borders, 5 mountain ranges, 3 deserts and 4 week's hard drive from Stratton Village, our starting line in the market town of Swindon.

Who would be stupid enough to do that?

Felix Milburn-Foster: Our glorious leader, qualified only by dint of not requiring a driving licence in the desert.

Eric Alan Beasant: Head of Morale, responsible solely for the provision of a 4 week long mix tape with no shit songs.

George Simbarashe Gardiner: Propaganda and international relationships officer. Responsible for imposition of Western style idiocracy and secular doctrine based on episodes of South Park and Viz magazine.

Why Refugee Action? Isn't Britain is full of asylum seekers already?

A recent MORI poll showed that on average, the British public believes that 23% of the world’s refugees and asylum seekers are walking our streets. That’s over eight times the actual figure. The number of asylum applications is currently very low – about the same as it was in 1989. In total we host only 2.5% of the world’s refugees and asylum seekers. That ranks us 11th in the world, behind Pakistan, Iran, Syria and Germany.

We know it’s hard to put yourself in the place of a person who has had to flee their country. But try. Reasons like war, ethnic cleansing, political persecution, rape or torture are just some of the reasons why people are forced to leave their homes, their jobs, people they love, everything they know.

Thanks for reading and please consider a donation. The secure payment page takes only 20 seconds to complete and even the smallest donation because you can be bothered would be gratefully received.
