Story
Thank you for visiting our very special fundraising page for The Octopus Challenge.
The Shooting Star Children's Hospice has found a truly great friend in Greg Scott and his incredible team of volunteers.
Greg set up The Octopus Challenge in memory of his son Sam Roden Scott who sadly passed away at the age of 17 following a fight against a very rare form of cancer. Sam inspired so many people in his short life. He realised that he wasn't the only one suffering from a life-threatening condition and he vowed that when he got better, he would promote charities that not only focused on the patient, but also provided vital support to family and friends.
Since 2002 the Octopus Challenge has raised over £350,000 for various charities and this year we are so thrilled that Greg and his team are aiming to raise at least £110,000 to fund 3 Paediatric Nurses at Shooting Star House, children's hospice.
Sam's story is truly inspiring and we couldn't let the 2005 event pass by without taking active part ourselves. As a result we, being Dalton Leong - Chief Executive, Veronica Mason - Hospice Head of Care and Mike Hey - Community Fundraising Manager have chosen to get on our bikes! The Octopus Challenge's main event is the bike ride from Paris to London and we are going to join them on the last day ride from Greenwich to Notting Hill. 15 miles doesn't seem that far but when you consider we haven't sat on a bike for over 15 year's each then this is quite a challenge. Please therefore give us some added impetus by flashing your cash! Every penny counts. Thank you so much. Please don't forget to come and support us at The Octopus Street Party which will welcome us home and provide some fantastic family fun and entertainment, all in aid of the charities. Please visit www.octopuschallenge.org.uk for more details. Many thanks Dalton, Veronica & Mike
