The Shrek Group will be leaving Wales on October 17th and spending the night in a Heathrow hotel before we depart on the 23rd Dreamflight trip! Hundreds of British Airways volunteers from across the airline wave us off to the beat from The Regimental Band of The Royal Welsh. Our very own 747 then takes to the skies Florida bound for a week of fun!
What is Dreamflight?
Dreamflight is a UK registered charity whose purpose is to send seriously ill and needy children on their 'holiday of a lifetime' to Florida, making new friends and sharing new experiences. While many charities focus their energies on research projects, we believe that it is just as important to bring fun and joy into the lives of children who perhaps can't wait for that breakthrough. We aim to make this truly special for all of the children on Dreamflight and the Shrek group in particular!
The Shrek Group is for children resident in South, West and Mid Wales, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire & Worcestershire.
Every year Dreamflight sends a British Airways 747 aircraft with 192 children and their adult escorts to Florida. as you can imagine, the costs are enormous and rising. All of the medical team and escorts volunteer their time but this year the trip will still cost in excess of £600,000 or £3,000 per child.
I feel very privilidged to have been involved in this wonderful charity for the past 13 years, and now proud to say I am the group leader for The Shrek Group. Over the years we have organised raffles and quiz sheets to help raise funds for the Welsh group, but now we have this "just giving page". Which is simply that, we are asking that instead of calling into a luxury coffee shop this week - consider sending the equivalent to us instead! 
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Dreamflight will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you, just remember to tick the Gift Aid box. All of the monies donated goes directly to the children, who really do deserve this special holiday.
Where does the money go? £2.50 pays for a group baseball cap for a child, £7.50 provides lunch and refreshments each day for a child and £21 buys each child in our group a cuddly Shrek! £200 allows a child to swim with the dolphins at Discovery Cove, a truly magical experience and £280 sponsors a set of T shirts for all of the members of the group for a day. On a larger scale - £1,200 provides each child with a DVD of the holiday, personalised to each group, £13,000 sponsors a day's entry to the Magic Kingdom or Universal Studios, with £40,000 the cost of the Dreamflight day at Discovery Cove, where all of the children have the opportunity to swim and interact with the dolphins. Finally, £320,000 is the cost of chartering the British Airways 747!
