Story
In September 2012 Shropshire Disability Network held their first Disability Challenge in memory of our founder the late Geoff Forgie. We now want to make this a bi-annual event. It was a great day & SDN received lots of good feedback-Can we do it again? Are you doing it next year?. Teams got sponsorship, so it also raised funding for us, a charity run totally by volunteers.
As Press/Publicity Officer & Fundraising Lead for SDN we are very excited to be starting on our next mission but need your help to bring it to fruition.Last year we borrowed frames. These heavey, metal frames were fixed to a standard manual wheelchair. SDN Member Alan Townsend (Disability Challenge Co-Ordinator) using his experience of last year has now designed a lightweight frame that is more suitable for us. We will be able to use these time and again-even hire them out to other organisations who want to do similar challenges. They will fold for easy storage. It will save us time & money travelling a very long way to collect & return frames which also incurred van hire costs.
Alan has produced detailed drawings and has made a model frame showing us how it will be. We now need help to get these drawings turned into Manufacturing drawings enabling the Company who will make them to work to from our design.
We plan to hold our next Disability Challenge in the Summer of 2014 but need your help with setting up costs ie have the frames made, hire of a marquee for the day, have the design drawn up etc. Please if you can help by making a donation, it would be much appreciated.
2014 Challenge will take place over a similar course to 2012. We had teams of 8-10 people carrying a person in a standard wheelchair up the Longmynd in Shropshire to its highest point enabling them to experience one of the most beautiful places in our county. It enables people to go on a venture that they would not normally do due to disability/long term condition.
So this Christmas instead of sending Christmas cards, why not support us and in doing so bring this project to another great day in 2014
