Story
Hi,
Thanks for visiting my page. Its here to provide an oportunity for people like you to be blessed through giving.
The bible says its better to give than to receive. (Acts 20.35) So I'm out here giving my time and effort to work alongside various projects located in Lima as well as being the man on the ground working with the short term teams coming from the UK.
So what do I do?
For 6 months of the year I help short term teams from the UK arrive and settle in Peru. I give them a briefing about life here, how to stay safe and how they will be involved in the life of the church they will be helping. I also visit the teams and provide ongoing advice and pastoral support to the team and team leaders.
At the same time I also work on a number of projects all year round.
They might not sound very exciting or dramatic but as we all know, every little helps.
Ventanilla: Is a shanty/slum area about 30km to the north of Lima, I help with a childrens bible study there on saturday mornings.
Anthony and Rommel benefit from my bible teaching skills and are also kept from disrupting the other kids.
California (Villa El Salvador) is just off the Panamericana South at KM 15. I help with the jovenes (youth group) on saturday evenings we play games, worship God and have talks on various themes which interest the young people, from relationships, to dodgy cults, to what is the best kind of music for a young christian to listen to.
Sunday I'm involved in my church 'the christian community for the family' and I generally help out with anything that needs doing. I'm also involved with the Jovenes Adultos (young adult) ministry and work with the youth pastor and his wife on fridays.
Tuesday I work in La Victoria, an inner city area with the young men of the Semilla de Mostaza house (mustard seed project). They are all ex street kids and we do a range of activities from bible studies and english classes to watching films and playing football together.
Wednesdays are study days for me and I take additional spanish classes and set time aside to 'perfect' my woeful spanish in the evening I help/attend at the church midweek bible study
Thursday I head to Lurin about 30km south of Lima, where I help disciple Rafael, and generally hang out with the family. Sadly the father is an alcoholic so for me to be around and play with the other kids and offer help and advice to the older boys is a chance to bless the family.
Friday I work with the youth pastors at church and help run the young adults ministry.
This work goes on all year round and is part of wider mission work both in and outside of the Latin Link context.
Its amazing to see the Latin Link missionaries in action and also encouraging to see so many Peruvians actively involved in the work of spreading the message of Jesus and helping other christians to grow in their faith.
I hope that you will be able to help me in this work.
Thanks for reading all this gumph.
Simon
