I will be running the Adidas Women's 5k Challenge in Hyde Park on 5th September 2010.  Those of you who know me will know I'm certainly no runner!  Although 5k might not be a marathon, it still presents a big personal challenge and one I'm determined to complete.  My target is to run the whole 5k in less than 45 minutes.  I have been training hard and now I need a bit more motivation!  That's where you come in:

(a) I'd like to raise £1000 per km!  That should keep me going :)

(b) Come along and cheer me on, run it with me or just pass the link to this page onto your friends and family!

I'm not just doing this for myself.  I couldn't decide which charity to run for, so I opened up the decision to my good friends on the BABs forum - a forum for female teachers who are trying to conceive, pregnant or have children (or who are just interested!).  They are an amazing bunch of women, lots of whom are now good friends.  They have chosen the Small Steps School for Parents in London.  One of our lovely BABs ladies attends Small Steps with her daughter and they do some fantastic work with brain damaged children under the age of 5 BUT they get no government funding!  To stay open they must raise £240,000 per financial year.  Please do visit their website for more information.

Here is a message to you from my friend, English teacher and author Stacie Lewis:

**************************************************************************************************************************************

My daughter, May, was diagnosed with severe brain damage at birth. At Small Steps School for Parents we work with a team of professionals trained to help children with motor and sensory difficulties. The school encourages our children to gain independence. Where some see disability, they see potential.

My daughter has attended Small Steps since January and already I can see the difference. With my support, she is now able to sit up to play, something we hoped for but were never quite sure would happen.

Most importantly, Small Steps is a School for Parents. They teach me to help May. But, as well as May, sharing time with such a highly-motivated team and group of parents has done me a world of good.

Small Steps charges no fees to the families that benefit from its services. By donating to Sian's run for Small Steps, you will be helping a very small charity that has become an invaluable part of our lives.

Thank you!
Stacie
