Story
Dear friends, family and colleagues - thank you for visiting my page!
Well - I did it! And yes there was lots of pain (it started at 3 miles) but the day was fantastic and the support was immense - thank you so much. I managed 4hrs 54 mins coming 1152nd in my age group - hurrah! Who says the old and lame can't run eh?! xx
March update..... well - there I was thinking that it was all going reasonably well, having posted 2.07 for my first half marathon. Then disaster struck - the toll of 13 miles (only half of April's distance!) meant that my 'good' knee was seriously dodgy... several physio sessions and little improvement sees me visiting the specialist - watch this space to see whether I will be hopping or crawling in April! Needless to say injury is very frustrating...STOP PRESS... I am to be re-built! I would like to say just like the Bionic Woman but it is more likely to be sellotape, sticky-back plastic and toilet roll tubes - along with a couple of cortisone injections and no guarantees... at some point in all this I did say that if I can't run then I would walk the 26 miles in a banana suit... little did I realise just how likely an option that may well be - eek!
The latest...one week to go and feeling slightly nervous...not least because of my high risk training strategy! Seriously though - thanks to everyone for your words of support, laughter, and disbelief. And yes I am completely barking. My running number is 49537 - don't forget to cheer us all on!
Well I always said that I like a challenge and having been through major knee surgery, running the London Marathon will certainly be one!
But I am sure you'll agree that Breakthrough Breast Cancer is a fantastic charity to run and raise funds for - sadly too many people know someone who has, had, or been affected by breast cancer in some way - I know I do. This charity supports research to eradicate this terrible disease through discovering the causes, finding methods of prevention, and through developing new treatments.
I am aiming to beat my personal best in marathon running - this currently stands at 0 marathons in 38 years! I can only get better...All your donations - large or small will help me reach my target for the charity when I run on April 13th so please, please dig deep and sponsor me.
Donating through this site is quick and secure and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you, through Gift Aid.
Thank you so much for your support - it means an awful lot to me to know that you care. Siani xx
