This is a photo of me and my sisters. I wish I could say I'm the one on Anna's right but that's Deb! Anna is in the middle. As all siblings do we argued relentlessly about things like who washes up, dries up or puts away, who was spending too much time in the bathroom, pinching each others clothes as well as many others!
As the oldest Anna called us the littleuns even when we were 15 & 16, she had her own room, she made fun of me for months when I cut my hair and left a bald triangle where my fringe should have been, particularly as I was really old enough to know better. But she was my big sister and I loved her, I looked up to her, confided in her and I was so proud of her when she took herself off to University, I was 19 and spent many weekends staying with her and we became close friends as well as being sisters.
In 1998 shortly after Anna had finished her degree she was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer, she spent the next two years very courageously doing everything she could to get better, she was very determined. During this time we had some good and some really tough times. I also have some very cherished moments.
Anna passed away on 24th November 2000, aged 29. I miss her everyday.
Today I received an email from the James Whale Fund telling me about an event called 'Britains Biggest Curry Party' now that, I thought, is something I can definitely be a part of so I have decided to host a curry party to raise funds for this great charity. Kidney Cancer is not typical in young people, especially not women and I hope that by raising some money I'm making a small contribution in raising awareness of this illness.
Logistics dictate that not everyone who sees this page will be able to attend the party, but if you do feel that you can make a donation it will be very gratefully received. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
