STOP PRESS - OXFORD TO LONDON BIKE RIDE - SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED ON SATURDAY 25TH JULY - RICHARD AND JONI WELCOME YOUR SPONSORSHIP

Thanks for visiting this fundraising page. We have been supporting work in Sierra Leone since Pastor Yatta Samura visited us in 2001 and told us how he was looking after 16 orphans in Freetown in a 2 bedroom shack. Through Pastor Yatta we have direct contact with the christian community church mission which is building / running 2 junior schools for victims of the civil war and working with people of all faiths. We also support the Ahkom project which is run by another christian, David Sandi, who is building / running an orphanage and a secondary school for victims of the civil war in Kono district. Ahkom means "how come" which is a question we often ask when learning about the atrocities and victims of the war.

The finances for this work are managed though our church, St Andrews Oxford. That means that every pound you give goes straight to the locals in Sierra Leone with no admin costs. Members of our church try and visit Sierra Leone annually in order to see the work on the ground and provide "face to face" support. Joni and I have just been to Sierra Leone in December 2008 as part of his gap year. You can see our blog at http://www.ahkom.info/blog

Maima school (phographed with Richard and Joni at back) started with under 100 children 4 years ago and now has almost 250 pupils. Bungalow school has nearly 300 children and has been supported by the C3M church since an NGO stopped sponsorship in 2008. More information about Sierra Leone can be found via the BBC web site.

In 2009 we need to raise £10,000 for extra classrooms together with educational material and teachers salaries. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to donate to C3M and Ahkom as there is a weekly money transfer and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. So please send a donation now!
