Great Gorilla Run · 26 September 2010

With just over 1000 mountain gorillas left in the world and 3 subspecies now critically endangered it is vital we do everything we can to save gorillas from extinction. We protect them from poachers, safeguard their forest home and improve livelihoods in local communities. Will you join us?

Story

Hi all

It’s that time of year again - David’s off doing some ridiculous, over-ambitious but worthy fundraising stunt.

This year it's the Great Gorilla Run.  On September 26th,  I’ll be joining 999 other idiots and running through the City of London dressed as a gorilla.  It’s all to raise money for the Rwandan mountain gorillas – one of the most endangered species on earth.  There will be far more people running in the Gorilla Run than there are gorillas!

One of the key aspirations of the Great Gorilla charity is to find ways for endangered species and local people and agriculture to co-exist.  A lot of their work has implications for other species and ecological strategies.

Supporting this cause should be a no-brainer but if you need more persuasion before you can give your support, then please visit http://www.greatgorillas.org/about for more information.  The Diane Fosse Gorilla Fund also has an excellent website with a video of Sigourney Weaver (not in a gorilla suit) at http://gorillafund.org/.  There is also a new three part TV series starting tonight (Sun) on BBC 2 at 8:00pm about this unique and important species.

Please give what you can – every bit helps!

Thank you very much  - David “Silverback” Guthrie
