Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In order to raise some money for Macmillan Cancer Support, we will be undertaking what we are calling, 'Miles for Macmillan'. For details of the stories of those taking part, have a look at our team page.
Between April 2013 and April 2014, we will be completing 5 walks, the total distance of which is 240 miles, and which contain over 64,500 ft of ascent (or to put it another way, a distance of over 9 marathons and over twice the height of Everest!) Details of each walk can be found below:
Walk 1 - April 2013 - The Gritstone Trail - 2 days, 35 miles, 5,292 feet of ascent
Located in Cheshire’s Peak District, it stretches from Disley in the north to Kidsgrove in the south.
Walk 2 - July 2013 - The National 3 Peaks Challenge - 24 hours, 26 miles, 9,800 feet of ascent
"One of the ultimate challenges in the United Kingdom” is how many people describe this 3 peaks walk. Ben Nevis at 4409ft, Scafell Pike at 3209ft and Snowdon at 3560ft, all within 24 hours.
Walk 3 - October 2013 - The Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge - 12 hours, 26 miles, 4895 feet of ascent
The Three Peaks walk of Pen-y-ghent (2,277ft), Whernside (2,415ft) and Ingleborough (2372ft) is probably the original three peak walk within the UK. The walk covers a distance of 26.1 miles all to be completed within 12 hours.
Walk 4 - January 2014 - The Derbyshire Portway - 2 days, 48 miles, 6,447 feet of ascent
The Derbyshire Portway is an ancient prehistoric trackway which can be traced from the Hemlock Stone on the edge of Nottingham to Mam Tor in the north of Derbyshire.
Walk 5 - April 2014 - The Wainwright Memorial Walk - 6 days, 107 miles, 38,120 feet of ascent
The Wainwright Memorial Walk is the 107-mile route through the Lake District that A. Wainwright - legendary author, artist and fell-walker - set out to walk with three friends over the Whitsunday holiday of 1931. The route starts in Windermere and ends in Ambleside. Along the way, Wainwright promises to lead the walker everywhere worth mentioning in the Lake District, on a route devised to make sure that 'Every lake, Every valley, Every mountain, will be seen if not actually visited'.
