We work with communities to improve access to clean water & toilets
Story
Thanks very much for visiting my Just Giving page to help raise funds for WaterAid...
I am taking part in a joint Severn Trent Water (STW) and overseas visit to in October 2010 (16 – 23) .STW have had a long and successful relationship with WaterAid who have delivered better access to drinking water and higher standards of sanitation for more than 900,000 people. The facts are alarming:- Only 42% of the country has water supply coverage and 11% has sanitation coverage. More than 44% of the population live below the poverty line and average life expectancy is just 54years....the people of Ethiopia need our help and support...the aims of the visit are:-
To obtain first hand examples of work Severn Trent has supported and through personal experience, allow me to return to the with greater knowledge to enable us to be ever more effective fundraisers and advocates.
Objectives of the Visit
a. Engaging with local community members during project visits; hearing and understanding the issues of concern to them
b. Examining and discussing with WaterAid and partner staff those aspects of programme management and project delivery presented during project visits
c. Assisting communities in practical work as required; e.g. well-digging; water carrying, latrine construction etc.
d. Meeting with local and national dignitaries and representatives of the media in-country to promote WaterAid’s work in their country and to highlight the interest of the in their water and sanitation issues.
e. Enabling visit publicity to be secured, in-country and in the UK, by taking part in live and recorded interviews for radio / tv, submitting weblogs, news reports etc. whilst in country; being prepared to be photographed at work during visits for print media and web news pages..
f. The Projects will include water provision, sanitation and hygiene promotion in both rural and urban settings
2. To publicise ’s work on return to the UK within STW, local community, and throughout the UK, via internal briefings, media interviews, and speaking engagements farther afield; to promote wider understanding of international development issues through these engagements; to ensure that the voices of the people encountered during the visit are being heard in the developed world.
3. To help drive WaterAid fundraising and / or strategy development within STW on return to the UK
Please dig deep and support me!! - thankyou
