Story

UPDATE SEPT 11th

Things have been a bit quiet over the last couple of weeks but another car boot sale and a few unexpected donations from old school friends have kept me ticking along (Thanks!). Only £150 to go so one last push and I’ll be there! Thanks to everyone who’s been donating and keeping an eye on what I’ve been up to.

UPDATE 20th AUGST

Since the last update things have slowed down dramatically. I’m getting close to my target and I’m getting lazy. Luckily the lads from work organised the Bluffing4Bobby poker night to get things going again. Thanks to all those who played and well done to George who put some of his winnings back into the charity pot. Thanks to Nigel for being the host and to Carl for making it work. Still to come: Buttons for Bobby – Live music from the Button Mushrooms at the Grey Horse pub inKingston (Sept 21st).

UPDATE - 6th AUGUST

Since the last update i've collected donations from the RHP fun Day where we had a Bounties4Bobby coconut shy, Bobbies4Bobby soak-the-policeman with a sponge game and Books4Bobby book stall. In one day we raised over £500 to share between us. We've also held our second quiz night which was re-scheduled at the last minute and meant that we were a bit short on teams but still had a great night and raised over £250. I've also had the golf afternoon which went really well and took place in glorious sunshine - another £200 raised.

THANKS EVERYONE - not far to go now!

UPDATE 15th July 2007

This last weekend had been great for fund-raising. The Brazil4Bobby club night went really well and we raised £750 to share between two of us. Thanks to all of you that came bought raffle tickets. Everyone seemed to have a great night and Jess and I did too.

On Sunday I did the Run for Moore 5K fun run. About 1500 fund-raisers took part in a sea of Bobby Moore T-shirts. I’ve been asking everyone I know for sponsorship for other events so I didn’t collect extra money for this. It was good fun anyway and I beat my 22 minute target with a time or 20 minutes, 10 seconds – my best ever for a 5K race.

UPDATE 1st June 2007

Firstly thank you to all of you who have already sponsored me on this site. It’s coming up to a month since I found out that I’d got a place and I’m up to £500.
Jess (who’s doing a similar project to me but in Brazil) and I have been working hard to arrange some fund-raising events to raise money rather than just pestering everyone for cash. I’ll be contacting everyone soon to see if you would like to buy tickets for the events. There’ll be posters and flyers making their way to everyone soon - I hope to see a lot of you there. So far the events schedule looks like this:CHECK OUT THE OTHE UPCOMING EVENTS FURTHER DOWN THIS PAGE

INTRODUCTION:

Hello, and thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. Now that the London Marathon and Red Nose Day are over you might start to think that the constant threat of someone coming to you asking for sponsorship for charity is over... You’re wrong!

I’ve got a place on a charity trip in November to help rebuild a school and football pitch for a deprived community in South Africa. It’s 10 days of labouring on a building site with about 40 other people in the middle of nowhere and sleeping in a shared tent – so it’s defiantly not a holiday. I had to apply for a place on the trip and there is a lot of competition. In order to get a place I’ve agreed to raise £4,000 for the Bobby Moore Cancer Research fund.

You might be asking yourself why I want to work on a building site, sleep in a tent and spend my life asking people for money. Well, errr, ummm it seemed like a good idea at the time! I think it’s going to be a really rewarding experience and my chance to help a community that really needs some help as well as raise a lot of money for the fight against bowel cancer.

So, to the point… I’ve got until the end of August to raise the first £3,200 and then until Christmas to raise the other £800 and this is where you come in…

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me. Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Make sure you check back here every now and again to find out what fundraising shenanigans I’ve been up to and what’s coming up next. In the mean time if you feel like making a random donation please feel free.

The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK raises money for research into bowel cancer in memory of footballer Bobby Moore.
