Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

So, what's it all about? We have decided to do our very own version of a triathlon in order to raise funds for Globalteer, a charity that we will be undertaking voluntary work with in Cambodia in December/January.

Since the genocide under Pol Pot's regime in the 70's, Cambodia has become a bit of a forgotten country on the list of the world's poorest nations. Infant mortality is high - over 60,000 children under the age of five die every year - and basic education is a privilege. Gobalteer educates the poorest to help lift them out of the poverty trap and provides food and healthcare to the neediest families.

Tourism has helped Cambodia but the economic downturn has severely effected even this vital source of income, and Typhoon Ketsana recently killed many, destroyed homes and ruined rice crops, making things even worse. For more information about where we will be volunteering and what we will be doing, visit http://www.globalteer.com/projects/cambodia.html.

Those of you familiar with our lifestyle will know that we are not exactly used to roughing it, but thanks to a chance meeting with a charity worker in a small village in deepest Devon, we decided it was our turn to give something back. You will also know that we are not exactly fit, and physical activity is low on our list of priorities, so doing something "sporty" is quite a challenge!

Our "one-and-a-half-a-thon" will take place on December 11th and will consist of Colin and Me sharing the three elements of a standard triathlon. I am going to swim 2,500m; Colin is going to run 5km (he is nearly 50...) and finally we will be teaming up for a 10km tandem bike ride around Dorney Lake in Eton.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
